They said they were only going to be here for a good time... not a long time. But they're still playing this song. Regardless, it's a Canadian 70s classic and it's a request I get every now and then. It's a very catchy melody and a great one for campfire sing-alongs.
If you want to play the guitar strum pattern as it is in the original recording, be warned it's quite difficult. For beginners, I recommend just using a simpler 4-beat strum pattern. But for those of you who want the challenge, here it is. Note, the X's are scratch strums in which you must mute the strings while still strumming in the direction of the X.
