My Dad used to sing this song a lot, sometimes on long road trips here in British Columbia. We used to go camping every year. I have fond memories of the song and those trips.
Now that I've been teaching guitar lessons here in Vancouver for so many years I must have played and sung this song hundreds of times. The lyrics seem to stick out a bit now. Is that a hint of infidelity in the second verse?
"When I come back, I'll wear your wedding ring?"
Why isn't he wearing the wedding ring all the time? Anyway, it's still a great song. Maybe this makes it more nuanced that we thought before.
Here's my fingerstyle guitar arrangement of it. There's nothing too tricky here but it moves faster than you might expect.
