Audrey Hepburn at Tiffany's
Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly
At a recent rehearsal with the Blue Morris 6 we performed Moon River in 4/4 time based on a simple arrangement I made to make the song suitable for blues dancing. The song is originally in waltz time.

I recorded the session and transcribed my chord playing for the record.

You can download a PDF of the transcription here, as well as an MP3 of the performance. It's only one chorus of the entire recording, but it has all the ideas in there.

A song I wrote this evening, inspired by a certain woman who wore fishnet stockings to last weekend's "vintage-formal" dance in Abbotsford. The changes are very similar to the jazz standard "Comes Love," with the B section chords altered to my liking. I've included two versions. A basic lead sheet and my original arrangement for guitar.

Transcribed from my recording on the Moanin' album, here is the sheet music in PDF format. I wanted to create an arrangement that was sparse and introspective, yet still sounded as though the subject felt tortured enough to wail. Simple, but effective (I think).

Snow Falls on Granville PDF Print E-mail

I wrote this waltz in my head while walking in my South Granville neighbourhood. It doesn't snow often in the city. I like the way snow quietens the city by absorbing all the sound. Of course, it's also quiet because no one in Vancouver drives when it snows. It hasn't been released yet, but I do have a short MP3 available you can listen to. A link to the PDF score and the MP3 is below.

'Misty' Arranged for Guitar PDF Print E-mail

Here is a transcription of my improvisation on Erroll Garner's song, Misty. A link to the PDF of this score is below.

I recorded this song at about 2am on a rainy night when I couldn't sleep. I intentionally left my apartment window open and the sound of the rain and the occasional passerby can be heard as recorded through a second microphone. Somehow, the sounds of the wind, the rain, and the occasional car driving by ad a nice ebb and flow to the intensity of the performance. That's why, on the album, the track is listed as "This is how it sounds outside my window - Misty."
